Part Time Hope Project Residential Support Worker

& Casual Residential Support Worker

Position Scope:

 

A Residential Support Worker is responsible for assisting in the facilitation of the day-to-day programming of the Hope Project and will work under the supervision of the Executive Director.

Duties:

 

  • Responsible for the safety and security of the residents, as well as the facility, in a single staffed environment

  • Encourage good resident morale and ensure an atmosphere that is warm, positive, home-like, and respectful

  • Responsible for the day-to-day implementation of a pre-planned program

  • Provide ongoing evaluation of residents

  • Provide guidance and support to residents

  • Transport residents to programs, meetings, and appointments where appropriate

  • Responsible for scheduled medication administration

  • Socialize with residents and integrate Christian-worldviews, as appropriate

  • Participate & help facilitate all aspects of our programming, including therapeutical hobby farming, art & craft making, soap making, etc.

  • Perform other duties as required by the Executive Director

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent

  • Excellent ability to organize and multi-task

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to exercise good judgement and make sound decisions

  • Knowledge of the issues that contribute to substance abuse including, but not limited to, homelessness, physical and sexual abuse, low self-esteem, and the cycle of poverty and abuse

  • Active involvement in local church/parish

  • Demonstrated ability to react to crisis situations in a calm and appropriate manner, ensuring the safety of the residents and staff

  • Ability to work independently and within a team framework, with good time management skills

  • Hold a valid driver's license and be eligible to be insured​​

Special consideration given to anyone with:

  • Addictions Education/Diploma

  • Nursing Background/Experience

  • Experience in addictions recovery

  • Social Services Education/Diploma

  • Experience working in an all-women setting

Employment Terms:

  • Residential Support Worker must be available to work day, evening, and some weekend shifts

  • Will be hired with a probationary period of 6 months

  • Current criminal record check

  • Sign and oath of confidentiality

Agriculture and Farm Operations Director, Hope Project

Position Scope:

 

The Hope Project, a women’s rehabilitation home in Sydney, Nova Scotia is looking for an
experienced Agriculture and Farm Operations Director to provide leadership and
implementation of the Hope Project Foundation Farming Operations and small business
initiatives. We are looking for a capable person who can supervise and instruct staff and
residents on site in agriculture, small animal care and maintenance to support the center’s
small business, and provide a skill set the residents can take with them when they complete
rehabilitation.

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Ensuring health and safety on site comply with provincial and national standards

  • To foster a team environment, working alongside staff members to ensure the wellbeing
    of residents.

  • Working with volunteers, board members and donors to further our cause

  • Animal farming responsibilities including supervising residents in caring for animals and
    ensuring their health, purchasing supplies, implementing farming techniques.

  • Agricultural farming responsibilities including supervision of all aspects of greenhouse
    and field agriculture initiatives.

  • Ground and farm maintenance, including organizing and supervision of staff and
    residents.

  • Oversight of the production of products made on the farm, marketing, and quality
    assurance.

Qualifications:

 

  • Relevant education (a Master’s degree in Agricultural therapy is preferred)

  • Experience with small businesses

  • Excellent ability to organize and multi-task

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to exercise good judgement and make sound decisions

  • Knowledge of the issues that contribute to substance abuse including, but not limited to,
    homelessness, physical and sexual abuse, low self-esteem, and the cycle of poverty and abuse

  • Master degree in agriculture therapy and extensive knowledge of small business and
    marketing

  • Active involvement in local church/parish (AFOD will integrate Christian-worldviews, as
    appropriate.)

  • Demonstrated ability to react to crisis situations in a calm and appropriate manner, ensuring
    the safety of the residents and staff

  • Ability to work independently and within a team framework, with good time management
    skills

  • Hold a valid driver's license and be eligible to be insured​​

  • Salary approximately $30000

The candidate will report to the board of directors of Hope Foundation.
